Create Categories & Tags

Categories and tags help organize your blog content, making it easier for visitors to find related posts.

Categories are your main topics, while tags describe specific details within each post.

If you’d like to learn more about when to use categories and tags, be sure to read our Categories vs. Tags Guide.

Create a New Category

Step 1: Go to Posts → Categories.

Step 2: Enter a Category Name and Slug.

The Parent Category and Description fields are optional.

Step 3: Click Add New Category.

Create a Subcategory

Subcategories help organize larger topics into smaller sections.

For example:

  • Recipes (Parent Category)
    • Breakfast
    • Lunch
    • Dinner

To create a subcategory:

Step 1: Follow the steps above to create a new category.

Step 2: Under Parent Category, choose the category you’d like your new category to belong to.

Step 3: Click Add New Category.

Posts assigned to a subcategory will also appear in the parent category archive.

Add Categories to a Blog Post

When creating or editing a blog post:

Step 1: Open your post in the editor.

Step 2: In the right sidebar, open the Categories panel.

Step 3: Select one or more categories.

We recommend assigning one or two categories to each post for the best organization.

Create & Add Tags

Tags can be created directly while editing a blog post or managed separately.

To manage all tags:

Step 1: Go to Posts → Tags.

When editing a post:

Step 2: Open the Tags panel in the right sidebar.

Step 3: Type a new tag or choose from your existing tags.

Helpful tip:

Try to keep your category structure simple. Categories are designed to organize your main content topics, while tags are best used to describe specific details within individual posts. A clear organization makes your website easier to navigate and improves the experience for your readers.
