Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before installing your theme.

Find answers to the questions we hear most often during installation and setup.

No. Your existing pages, posts, and media will remain on your website. The demo content is simply added alongside your current content.

The import will replace your current theme settings—including colors, fonts, menus, and other customization options—with the demo settings. If you’ve already customized your site, we recommend creating a backup before importing the demo.

Most installations take about 10-15 minutes from start to finish, including importing the demo content.

No. Only the required plugins are needed for your theme to function correctly and should always be installed.

The recommended plugins are optional and are only used for specific features included in the demo. If you choose not to install a recommended plugin, any demo content that depends on it will simply be skipped during the import.

For example, if you don’t install WooCommerce, the shop pages and products included in the demo won’t be imported—but the rest of your website and theme will work as expected.

If you’re unsure, we recommend installing all of the suggested plugins during the import. You can always deactivate or remove any optional plugins later if you decide you don’t need those features.

No. Upload the original ZIP file exactly as you downloaded it from your Hello You Designs account. WordPress requires the ZIP file during installation.

First, make sure you’re logged into the same account used during checkout. If your purchase still isn’t showing, submit a support ticket and we’ll be happy to help.

Yes! You can install your Hello You Designs theme on an existing WordPress website.

Before getting started, we strongly recommend creating a full backup of your site. While the installation process is safe, it’s always best practice to have a backup in case you want to restore your previous design or settings.

For the best experience, we also recommend working on a staging or development site whenever possible. This allows you to build and customize your new website without affecting your live site or interrupting your visitors.

Most hosting companies offer free staging sites. If you’re unsure whether your host includes one, simply contact their support team and ask if they provide a staging or development environment for your website.

Please note: Importing the demo will not delete your existing pages or blog posts. However, your site’s design settings—including colors, fonts, menus, widgets, and Customizer settings—will be replaced with those from the imported demo.

Demo import failures are almost always caused by your hosting environment—not the theme itself. The most common causes are:

  • Server or PHP memory limitations
  • A plugin conflict
  • Hosting configuration or security settings

If you’re installing on an existing website, first deactivate all plugins except the required Kadence plugins, then run the import again. This resolves the majority of import issues.

If the import still doesn’t complete, please submit a support ticket and include:

  • The name of your theme
  • Any error message you received
  • A screenshot (if available)
  • Your hosting provider

We’ll help you identify the issue and get your site up and running as quickly as possible.

Yes! You can import a different demo at any time.

Many of our demos use the same page names and permalinks. If you choose Delete Old Demo Content during the import process, those existing demo pages may be removed and replaced with the pages from the new demo.

This is only a concern if you’ve already customized or added your own content to those demo pages and want to keep it.

If you’ve spent time editing your current demo, we recommend creating a backup before importing a different one.
