Customize your menus

Your navigation menus help visitors find their way around your website. This tutorial will show you how to add or remove menu items, assign menus to your theme, and understand the difference between your desktop and mobile navigation.

Edit Your Menu

Step 1: From your WordPress dashboard, go to Appearance → Menus.

Step 2: Select the menu you’d like to edit.

Step 3: Add, remove, or rearrange menu items as needed.

Step 4: Click Save Menu when you’re finished.

Assign Your Menus

Most Hello You Designs themes include a Primary Menu, and some themes also include a Secondary Menu.

Step 1: While in Appearance → Menus, open the Menu Locations tab.

Step 2: Assign the appropriate menu to each available location.

  • Primary Menu – Displays in your main website navigation.
  • Secondary Menu (if available) – Displays in the secondary navigation area used by your theme.

Step 3: Click Save Changes.

Helpful Tip: Not every Hello You Designs theme includes a Secondary Menu. If you don’t see this option, your theme doesn’t use one.

Understanding Your Mobile Menu

Kadence uses a separate Mobile Navigation location for your mobile menu.

You can:

  • Use the same menu for both desktop and mobile.
  • Create a separate mobile menu with different links.

Step 1: Return to Appearance → Menus.

Step 2: Select or create the menu you’d like to display on mobile.

Step 3: Assign it to the Mobile Navigation location.

Step 4: Save your changes.

Helpful Tip: If your mobile menu is missing pages or doesn’t match your desktop navigation, make sure a menu has been assigned to the Mobile Navigation location.
