Featured Images & Image Sizes
Featured images are the main images used for your blog posts. They appear on your blog page, category pages, search results, and anywhere your theme displays post previews.
Set a Featured Image
When editing a post, open the Post Settings panel in the editor and select Featured Image. Upload or choose an image from your Media Library.
Recommended Image Size
Kadence uses image ratios instead of fixed image sizes, so your images automatically crop to fit the layout you’ve selected.
For the best balance of quality and performance, we recommend:
- 1200 × 1600px for portrait images
- Upload images no larger than 2000px for hero and no wider than 1300px for others
- Avoid very small images, as they may appear blurry
Common Image Ratios
Choose the ratio that best matches your content.
- 1:1 — Square
- 3:4 — Portrait
- 4:3 — Landscape
Change the Featured Image Ratio
You can adjust the image ratio in several places.
Single Posts
Go to:
Appearance → Customize → Posts/Pages Layout → Single Post Layout
Change the Featured Image Ratio setting.
Blog & Category Pages
Go to:
Appearance → Customize → Posts/Pages Layout → Archive Layout
Adjust the Featured Image Ratio to change how post images appear on your blog and category pages.
Posts Block
When using a Posts Block:
- Select the Posts block.
- Open the Style tab.
- Expand Image Settings.
- Choose your preferred Image Ratio.
Show Featured Images on Posts
Some Hello You Designs themes hide the featured image on individual posts by default.
To enable it:
Appearance → Customize → Posts/Pages Layout → Single Post Layout
Turn on Show Featured Image.
Once enabled, you can also customize its position and image ratio.

Helpful tip:
Kadence automatically crops images from the center to match your selected ratio. For the best results, leave a little extra space around the subject so it still looks great on desktop, tablet, and mobile.
